Epidemiology and Biostatistics

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit provides methodological support to CIDEIM research projects to ensure valid and precise results, and minimize biases that affect the internal and external validity of the studies. We are responsible for data management – we create, administer and store all databases guaranteeing integrity and confidentiality of the information.  In addition, we consult of study design, data management safety policies and statistical methods in line with research project objectives. We also offer training courses in the field of statistics.

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit provides support in:

  • Design of epidemiological studies and laboratory experiments.
  • Development of data analysis plans and statistical analysis for clinical studies and laboratory experiments.
  • Calculating sample size and designing sampling methods.
  • Data entry and information quality control.
  • Database design in Microsoft Access, SQL Server and OpenClínica.
  • Statistical analysis of data.
  • Report and manuscript writing.
  • Statistical training with a focus on biomedical research.

Achievements

The Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit has made methodological and statistical contributions to CIDEIM scientific papers. We have promoted and implemented data management policies based on national and international standards, with an aim to improve the quality of our research. Our team has put into action the OpenClínica system for management of projects with clinical components, thereby facilitating compliance with applicable regulations. In addition, we develop and offer courses in statistics applied to biomedical research.
