CIDEIM

CIDEIM is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to biomedical research in infectious diseases and the development of research capability. CIDEIM was constituted as an autonomous Colombian institution in 1990. Its institutional heritage dates from 1961 with the establishment of a Technical Assistance Mission by Presidential decree through which Tulane University and the then newly established School of Medicine of the Universidad del Valle in Cali conducted a broad program of cooperation in human health research.

February 27th and 28th, 2012 in Cali, Colombia

As part of the celebration of its 50 years, CIDEIM seeks to promote an intersectorial dialogue on the future of research and innovation to generate solutions for pressing national health issues. Considering successful international examples and local capacities, our goal is to advance a discussion among researchers, health professionals, and representatives of the industrial, governmental and civil society sectors.

Please visit http://www.cideim.org.co/simposio_cideim/en/ where you will find all the information about the symposium. Participation in the event is at no cost, but we kindly ask that you register through the website for organizational purposes.

The event will take place February 27th and 28th, 2012 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Cali. We hope you will join us.

III International Symposium on Prevention of Nosocomial Infections: What is New?
VII International Symposium on Antimicrobial Resistance

CIDEIM invites you to participate in these two events in which international speakers with renowned trajectory will lead open discussions about the latest on prevention, detection, interpretation and therapeutic management of both community- acquired and health-care associated bacterial infections.  Since antimicrobial resistance is a challenge for all health-care related professionals, we expect to congregate 800 opinion leaders in infectious diseases, microbiology, hospital epidemiology and intensive care, as well as all professionals who actively participate in the Clinical area, from all over the country and Latin America, making these symposiums the ideal scenery for exchanging ideas.

Statistics Applied to Biomedical Research Course

The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Unit of CIDEIM is currently offering the "Statistics Applied to Biomedical Research" course from August 24th-November 24th.  This course will be offered again in the first trimester of 2011. This course, currently offered in Spanish, makes use of the “blended learning” (B-learning) modality, which combines face-to-face meetings with online work and interaction with a virtual tutor.

This course is meant for undergraduate and postgraduate students, young investigators and professionals in the health field looking to strengthen their knowledge of statistics and data management.

The objective is to provide a general and practical overview of the statistical techniques and tools most commonly used in biomedical research. In addition, participants will gain experience in interpreting reports from specialized statistical software, such as Epi-Info, SPSS and STATA.
